Why is my 8yr old female Maltese petrified of a 6wk old puppy I just got two days ago?

My 8yr old Maltese shakes every time she is near the puppy, she's petrified. She actually ignores the puppy as well and wont even sniff her like she does with other dogs. Does anyone know why? and will this eventually stop?
