Are there really "friendly Christian congregations everywhere" who would like me to visit them?

As long as you didn't interrupt the service to do so, yes, most churches would love to sit down with you and hear you out if you were willing to do the same. Many wouldn't think much of it if you never agreed and left, peacefully, either...happens often!
